Superfast Cornwall is building on the foundations laid by a previous European funded partnership, called actnow. Actnow was a non-profit partnership that promoted economic development in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly through the use of broadband and supported nearly 10,000 small and medium sized businesses.

actnow ran a pilot project, called Flex, that supported small and medium sized businesses to adopt flexible working practices and looked in depth at the benefits and issues associated with flexible working, teaming up with leading experts in flexible working from the Future Work Forum at Henley Management College and SustainIT.

The results of this pioneering research have had far reaching impacts. Today, the benefits of flexible working are even easier to achieve and can be even more dramatic as superfast broadband enables still greater productivity and improved work-life balance.
